Terrific idea

Bill would set earlier presidential primary

I have always wanted to be personally sucked up to by people desirous of becoming the Leader of the Free World, and now I might get a chance. In fact, I think we should have an even earlier primary, or better yet a caucus (caucuses look like they're more fun). Let's have it in November the year before. I know that Iowa and New Hampshire say that they have to be first, but let's just go ridiculously early so that they'd have to go even more ridiculously early to beat us. Nobody can out ridiculous us. I am serious.

Caucuses are more fun! Last election, I lived in Washington, a state that has a caucus, although really, it was already a foregone conclusion Kerry would be the Democratic nominee by that time. Still, we got to vote on all these motions to add this or that plank to the party platform and you actually got to see all the other people (in my district, the Kucinich people were well organized and basically all knew each other and dominated the caucus - where they took the highets # of delegates). The fun part is the fact that you have to have at least 5% to continue on, so anybody that's below that cutoff has to re-vote immediately. I'm still not sure I understand the agreement that the Dean & Edwards voters had last year. In my district, Edwards didn't pull down enough, so all the Edwards people went to Dean in the 2nd vote.

Alabama should hold its primary the day after the previous election cycle's general election. You can do the 2012 primary on November 5, 2008! I'd like to see any other state beat that.
