Is this a joke?

Scrushy widens ministry

Apparently, no.

A new Web site, scrushy-ministries.com, details Scrushy's new role as a pastor, televangelist and head of Kingdom Builders International, an organization seeking to pool the resources of nondenominational Christian churches.

Scrushy and wife Leslie, the daughter of a Methodist minister, were recently ordained pastors and ministers of Grace and Purpose Church, according to the site. That church service is televised on the WOTM cable channel owned by Scrushy's son-in-law, Michael Plaia.

(Full disclosure: I went to high school with Mike Plaia.)

This is in addition to their morning half hour show, which is still on the air. He's sort of a discount Pat Robertson without (yet) claiming the magic powers. And there's the "documentary" which "tells the story of the role their religion played in the former HealthSouth Corp. CEO's acquittal of fraud and conspiracy charges." It would be embarrassing if he got convicted of the Montgomery charges.

Never mind that, he's going to the Bahamas! Seriously, he got permission to attend a "pastors' leadership meeting" in Nassau. And he's building churches in Africa, because there aren't any churches that need building here I guess. Except for his planned Bible college in McCalla. (Full disclosure: my family is from McCalla and this pisses me off.)

And he and Leslie promise not to keep a penny of the money they raise through their "ministry", and we should all believe that because, well, just because, I guess.

Oh but Mac, you missed the best nugget of all. We had this somewhere on the site, but here's more details:

Where in McCalla is his bible college going? Do we know yet?

Love the new title of the page.

And this too-good-to-be-true wire copy quote of Scrushy's

Ouch. Is he that oblivious or that hypocritical?

I am guessing it would be near McAdory off of 459, but that's just a guess.

Nahh, that land is going to a new strip mall movie theater. Though all of the growth in the community has been on the Eastern Valley side. We do have the three churches and the industrial stuff across the way on the Rock Mountain side.

I hadn't heard of his Bible College wishes and Caviar dreams. Wonder how pie-in-the-sky it is.

God in happy horsehit heaven, I love this state!

Correction: God in happy horseshit heaven, I love this state!

"We do have the three churches and the industrial stuff across the way on the Rock Mountain side."

Do you mean the Rock Mtn exit off of I-59?

Where do you think the strip mall + movie theater will go? Across Eastern Valley Rd. from the warehouse, where those run-down looking homes are now?

"I wanted to hear for myself what was going on," Scrushy said. "I wouldn‘t believe anything that man (Fastow) said. This is horrible that there are people who would do something like this to a company."

Scrushy doesn't think too much of CFOs. After all, he hired one after another who came in and perpetrated a $2.4 billion fraud right under his unsuspecting nose. I bet Ken Lay wishes he'd shut up.

BTW, if you haven't seen Enron: The Smartest Guys In the Room, check it out. It's depressing but very well done.

Good point Kathy.

Susan: I could be mistaken, but my understanding that it would be on the Eastern Valley side. I took it to mean just down from the Food World, strip mall et al. Couldn't really put it anywhere else unless they start buying and demolishing.
