If "Veronica Mars" survives, I'm happy
CW network to replace WB, UPN in September - Jan. 24, 2006
To be honest, a lot of the time I'm not sure which of the two networks a show airs on. They've always been pretty interchangeable. Leaves a hole in a lot of local channels' schedules.

Yeah, I wonder what happens to all those affiliates. In Montgomery, the WB affiliate is some weird cable-only deal. I'm guessing it will just dissolve and let the UPN affiliate get the CW. I wonder how most markets will determine which gets CW and which becomes "Your Movie Station!"

Apparently some amount of dealing has already taken place. Besides Tribune stations, though, it's unclear who has dibs.
In Montgomery, the WB channel is owned by Liberty (the NBC affiliate's parent), and I'm pretty sure the UPN affiliate is independent. Maybe in Montgomery there will be a cable-only CW affilate and the UPN affiliate can go back to showing Troy University basketball or whatever they showed before America's Next Top Model.

CBS-owned UPN affiliates have dibs, too. That still doesn't resolve anything for Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville, or Montgomery.

21 and 68 in Birmingham are run (if not owned -- I'm not sure about that) by the same company. I don't think 68 even has independent offices. (If anyone cares, I know who to ask.) I expect 21 will take over with 68 relegated to running movies and syndicated repeats in prime time.

"I expect 21 will take over with 68 relegated to running movies and syndicated repeats in prime time." Ew. Like an even crappier WGN.

Not that I watch channel 68.

I like spreading my remarks over several comment entries.

WGN actually airs the WB in Chicago and some other markets. Apparently they'll continue with the new network. I like "Da Vinci's Inquest", a Canadian series that airs on WGN.

That show's been on for forever in Canada, and it hit general syndication in the states this year. In Montgomery, it also appears on our ABC affiliate, and it probably comes on some other channel in Birmingham, too, in case you miss the 80 times WGN shows it every night. My sister is also hooked on the show. You probably just like it because that hot chick from Serenity plays the daughter.

It's on Sunday night at 9 on UPN 68, but I prefer the daily strip. Jewel Staite actually has a very small role on the show.

It's a win-win for Richmond. We get the WB after 1:30 a.m., and a week behind everyone else. Next year, I'll actually get to see Gilmore Girls when everyone else does. Woo-hoo!
