That's very nice, Don

Siegelman: Seniors should pay less, companies more

The Don Plan would be to lift the four percent state sales tax on food and medicine only for those 65 and older, making up the lost revenue by coming up with a rational corporate tax. I question the former; it seems like it would be very complicated for businesses to apply. Also, it's just asking for fraud.

I'm stunned you'd use the words Siegelman and fraud in the same post! What would the prosecutors say?

What would Redding Pitt say?

Gosh, yes, Don, let's exempt every senior citizen, regardless of income, from sales tax on food and medicine. But let's continue to charge low-income families sales tax for food and medicine -- and tax their income when it reaches $4,600 a year. Yeah, that's a great idea....

I guess I'll be asking my elders to buy beer for me again.

And chips. Don't forget the chips.

"Tonight on WSFA-12 News: our top story -- gubernatorial candidate _______ says something totally obvious! is he serious? will the plan work? are you nuts, it's an election year! the only point is to get on TV the most!"

Nice idea in principle, but practically impossible to implement without fraud (if at all). Wouldn't somoene who's been in government for a few years realize that?

I've completely forgotten why I ever voted for this man.

Susan: Might that reason be ... Fob James?

Posted by: Kenny at October 14, 2005 09:10 AM

Speaking for myself, I'd have voted for almost anyone against James, but I don't think that's it. I think Siegelman actually turned evil. I'm not sure when, but he didn't used to be that bad for a politician.

Yeah, I guess I also forgot the clump of idiocy that is Fob James--probably because he hasn't made any absurd public pronouncements lately. Recency effect, I suppose.
