I hated high school
Top 100 Hits of 1989 / Top 100 Songs of 1989
The top 100 songs of the year I graduated. Of the top twenty, there are maybe three songs I don't utterly hate. Of the top 28, four are "by" Milli Vanilli, and two of the top six are by Paula Abdul. Even Prince's entry ("Batdance", no. 44) sucks. Just in case you were wondering why grunge hit so big a couple years later. Via Big Media Matt.

Hey, it could have been worse.

Hmm. I count four I don't hate out of the top twenty that year, though I can't identify a handful. On the other hand, I have a weakness for the cheesy folk ballads of the period. And I really like "Sara Smile", #11.
Also, the #78 song of the year was "Got To Get You Into My Life"? What, as some sort of demonstration as to how far McCartney had fallen?

My year (1991) is horribly bad. 3 songs from C&C Music Factory (including #3), Rico Suave from Gerardo, Vanilla Ice, one of REM's worst songs - Shiny Happy People, and Marky Mark singing Good Vibrations. Somehow Warrant and Winger snuck in at the bottom of my top 100, I was thinking they were dead by then - I guess it was just before grunge. I like your year better, of course, I actually liked the goofy raps from Tone Loc and Young MC.

Class of 1977 had those classics "Torn Between Two Lovers" and "I'm Your Boogie Man" as #10 and #11. Scary! At least "Hotel California" was in the top 20.

Ah, those halcyon disco years.
Dennis Leary said it best: "There we were, at the height of the Sexual Revolution, wearing clothes that guaranteed we wouldn't get laid."

Let's make it three years in a row! Not a lot of musical goodness in 1978, either...
