How terrible for them

al.com: NewsFlash - States suspend gas-pump price rules due to rise in fuel prices

Apparently, gas station owners are finding it impossible to raise prices on their old pumps higher than $2.99 a gallon. So they're asking to be allowed to sell it by the half gallon so they can charge more. Thank God we aren't taking some radical measures against gouging instead.

So, this explains my problem. I put $20 of gas in my car each week and found that I was getting fewer miles on that and thought that I needed a tune-up. Now, I see that this is the fault of the oil companies backed by Bush. I'm taking the pollution control devices off of my car and switching back to leaded gas.

I thought Alabama had a pretty tough anti-gouging law -- figured that's why my local Chevron (which has new pumps) hadn't gone above $2.99. That doesn't help people elsewhere, though.
