Guess what color he is!
TV thief released after 35 years
Junior Allen stole a $140 black & white television in 1970. For this, he was sentenced to life in prison. After 25 attempts at parole, he finally got out on his 26th try. Meanwhile, rapists and murderers went free.

How much time would he have gotten if he had stolen a color TV?
I feel so guilty for having laughed when I read this...

Yes, racism and hatred is alive and well, despite reports to the contrary.

Here's another side:
Many times there are other circumstances that the defendent's attorney doesn't cover. For instance, besides theft, there is tresspassing. Was the homeowner in the house when he entered and were there threats or other crimes?
This reminds me of a time when a young lady suffered a horrible, horrible sex crime in Birmingham. I'm not going to describe it because it is worse than you can imagine. The girl was white and the criminal was black. That only made a difference to the press--not the jury. Because of double-jeopardy, the D.A. chose to first charge him with theft because he took her watch and some cash. If that didn't accomlish justice, he still had the really bad charges to bring forward.
The jury found him guilty (he was), and he was sentenced to something like 25 years in prison. Guess how the national media covered it.
"In Birmingham, Alabama a young black man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing a watch and $12 cash."
That was it. No mention of the horrible things that he did. Birmingham got another black eye by giving whatever measure of justice could be provided to that young lady. Her life was changed forever. The young man got sympathy.
I have to think that there is more to this television case than is revealed in the article, but some journalists are too lazy to do the job or prefer to exhibit bias.
