"Armies of compassion?"
Bush praises Southern Baptists as convention re-elects its leader
Even for Bush, that's a weird metaphor. Not to mention that compassion has never been the SoBas' definining characteristic.

I was thinking about the other one, the one about putting on the gospel armor--
"each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there."
I guess when your Humvee isn't armored, prayer is about all you got.

How about "I'm in the Lord's Army"? We used to sing that when I went with my neighbors to the Church of Christ Vacation Bible School.

Ack! I forgot about that one. My kids picked it up somewhere (surely not at pacifistic All Saints) & horrified me by singing it loudly in the grocery checkout line, complete with militaristic pantomime.
