Pharoah's revenge

CNN.com - Locust plague sweeps into Israel - Nov 22, 2004

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught the parallel:

"It's like the plagues of Egypt," said one resident.

Locusts are kosher, and some people are eating them.

It's safe to say that almost everyone in Israel thought of it as well.

I, personally, have this sort of hardwired thing where locusts = biblical plague. I don't think I'm alone. The other plagues don't work the same way for me for some reason.

Yeah, locusts are one of the easier ones to remember. A massive influx of frogs isn't too likely these days. But a huge country-wide epidemic of cowpox would also trigger Biblical references everywhere in Israel, since we read about these things every year during one of our major holidays.

In this case, it's literally like the plague of locusts in Egypt, as they just came from there.

Yes, but you'll notice the locusts came to Israel, the weather got cold, and they died.

I'm just sayin'. They didn't die in Egypt. Nope. Nuh-uh.

They'd better watch out for their firstborn sons, if you ask me.

I'll stay out of Egypt, then.
