Good news and bad news

U.S. job growth jumps after months of weakness - Apr. 2, 2004

On the other hand, the unemployment rate, which had been falling (mostly because of people giving up and leaving the workforce, not because of job creation) went up a point to 5.7 percent. That won't continue if job creation in future months matches March, though.

The unemployment rate means jack shit because discouraged workers aren't counted as unemployed, a very poor measure of economic health.

I think the addition of those striking grocery workers in California pushed this from kinda promising into let's gloat terrirory. Of course, with Bush and Co, it's always reason to gloat.
