The MEChAnic

Bustamente Defends Chicano Student Group

Everything I've read makes MEChA out to be basically an ordinary targeted student group -- the Hispanic version of Hillel. Everything I've read except for polemics on right-wing blogs, that is. According to the AP piece, MEChA has never been associated with violence at all -- a far cry from the Klan. Bustamante isn't backing away for the simple reason that there's nothing to be ashamed of here. This is just a smear campaign.

Are you unfamiliar with the rioting damage they caused at UCLA? I believe it was close to $500K.

They have caused several demonstrations to get violently out of hand. They even met with Arafat (another real peaceful kind of guy) to discuss future plans of some sort. Why they would ever want to met with him; especially during the timeframe that they did meet with him (early 70s)I can't explain. They are not a peace loving group and they do have an agenda that many Californians aren't too happy about.
