CNN.com - FTC shuts down company touting cancer cure - Feb. 21, 2003
A British Columbian company was selling "cancer cures" out of a clinic in Mexico. For $15K a pop. Of course, they mostly preyed on Americans. The three countries have gotten together to shut the scam down. I hate these people.

I can't imagine being so desperate/stupid that I would pay $15,000 to a clinic in Tijuana for a cure advertised in "Alternative Medicine" magazines.
Come to think of it, I can't imagine reading an "Alternative Medicine" magazine in the first place.

And yet, thousands of people do each year. There's a thriving subculture of cancer quacks huddled in Tijuana, and others in various places in Northern Mexico. You've probably heard of the laetrile bunch, but they're just the tip of the iceberg.

A lot of them are people who are so paranoid about medical technology that they would rather go to some quack who uses "holistic" or "natural" medicine than to a doctor who offers cold, hard science.
You'd be amazed what stupid people will fall for, even today.
