So fishhooks are a-okay

Fish lack the brains to feel pain, says the latest school of thought - smh.com.au

Professor James Rose of the University of Wyoming has determined that the part of the cerebral cortex that is aware of pain is absent in fish. They can sense threatening stimuli, but that's it. PETA, predictably, rejected the study. A spokesman said "Of course, animals can feel pain." Some do; fish, apparently, do not. But it's a matter of faith for PETA, which increasingly resembles a religion more than an activist group.

So that explains why they bump their noses against the walls of their tanks until they're bruised and bloody.

Well, that, and the fact that fish have no brains, either.

Or why they'll bite on a fluorescent see-through worm with a big hook sticking out of it. And why, if released, they'll do it again.

Yeah... that one made me laugh. You won't see THAT on Spongebob. Should, but won't.
