Ladies and Gentlemen, Our Champion

Hawk Harrelson's victory, 46-34 over Tim McCarver, was particularly impressive since many people hadn't even heard him call a game. Lucky, lucky people. Is he going to do a radio call of the World Series? I hope not.
I'm still looking for the Nehru jacket picture.
UPDATE: Here we go.

Sorry for the delays, but I wanted to keep the voting open for a week.

Two weeks ago, as the White Sox were thrashing the Red Sox, I twice wrote about how impressed I was with the pitching of White Sox stand-in closer Bobby Jenks. Well, the Chicago wrapped up the ALCS with their fourth straight victory over the Angels a f... [Read More]

Yes!!! This is an upset of monumental proportions. I thought McCarver would run away and hide, unless Lou Pinella was introduced as a late entry. I guess this shows the power of a really bad homer... [Read More]

and then there was people like me, who hadn't heard him call a game until the contest started, then sat through ten painful minutes of a WGN broadcast just to see what the fuss was about

Fortunately for White Sox fans, (like me) we haven't been subjected this asshole in the playoffs. ESPN and Fox have exclusive rights to the TV broadcasts, while John Rooney and Ed Farmer have manned their customary spots on the local radio broadcasts in Chicago. Good thing, too. It's hard telling how much more annoying the Hawk would've become now the the ChiSox are going to the World Series ......

Years ago, NBC used to include one of the home team announces on its World Series broadcast teams. If that was still the case, we might have Hawk and McCarver at the same time!

Here's a link to a picture of Hawk back in his not so glorious playing career (remember, he quit baseball to pursue professional golf and also that his claim to fame is inventing the batting glove).

Very disappointing.

I must admit I have never heard of this guy before, but if he won over MCCARVER, then he must be pretty bad.

That Sports Illustrated cover made me laugh waaaay more than it should have. Hawk is definatly a deserving champ, even though I still wish Billy Packer would have made the Finals.

There it is. In all its horror. A real-live 1960s fashion abomination. What the hipsters wore at the Playboy Club in Beverly Hills. The most unexpected delight of MLB on XM was the Rooney-Farmer radio partnership. Now Rooney won't follow Farmer when the Chisox move from the ABC-owned sports station to the Infinity-owned station. But Mr. Fashion Plate keeps his teevee job. Grrrr.

Sheesh, it looks like the White Sox cap was Photoshopped on to his head...

Congratulations to all the participants. or something. I just wish I wasn't filled with rage when I look at his smarmy, weasley ass.
It just really sucks that these dinosaurs who are long since past their primes are kept around, not because of their quality, rather just because they've always been there.

Hawk is one of the coolest announcers ever. Don't know what game you guys are watching.
HOW BOUT SOME DIAMOND DRY WIMPY!

The results of this contest warm my heart in ways that many could not imagine.
I have long held that Hawk is easily the worst broadcaster in major league baseball and this can be used as the counter to the "oh, you're just a Cubs fan" argument.
